Seawater desalination in Maldives
The CSRE MD can be driven by released heat from diesel gensets. The output efficiency of gensets is only 30-40%; 60% of heat is released by flue gas and to coolant. In Maldives, generally, a 500 kWh of genset station is installed in each island. The coolant temperature after absorbing heat is up to 87 ℃, which just fits the thermal needs of MD system. The seawater is as coolant for MD system. The capacity of the MD desalination system is 12T/day. The combination of MD and gensets can easily resolve the scarity issue of electricity and drinking water in remote islands.
